Ep. 15 - Rhonda Wiersma - Mental Health

Rhonda Wiersma joins us for some real talk about the important topic of mental health as we enter this holiday season. We spoke about the attitudes and stigma related to mental health both within and outside the church. We tried to understand how Biblical and Christian counseling differ in their approaches and how we can get involved as counsellors to those struggling in our own lives.

Here are a couple references Rhonda made in this episode:

Ep. 14 - Christmas Bonus Pt 2. - Why Do Conservative & Liberal Christians Disagree So Much?

Welcome to Part 2 of the Christmas Bonus Episode! If you haven’t already listened to the first part, I would suggest checking that out as it helps to frame our discussion in part two.

In this episode, we spend a lot of time discussing why Christians who share the same fundamental beliefs can disagree so strongly on various issues and why that can actually be a good thing! Let us know what you make of our analysis - none of us are trained psychologists so please let us know if we got anything wrong.

At the end of the show, we get into freedom of speech and argue over whether the American Dream (and by extension the Canadian Dream) is a Christian idea or not.

Hopefully you find this episode to be enjoyable, at least mildly informative! Looking forward to hearing all of your thoughts.

Ep. 13 - Christmas Bonus Pt 1. - Culture - Racism - Marxism

Welcome to the Christmas Bonus episode! In this one we have on Mike Hutten from the One Christian Thinks podcast to talk about all things culture. You can check out his podcast and all of our research links down below.

This podcast ended up going super long so we divided it into two parts (part two drops tomorrow) to make it easier to consume. In the first half we talk about racism, BLM, and how current cultural movements are impacted by ideologies like Marxism, Neo-Marxism and Critical Race Theory.

This is a bit of an experimental episode where you get to hear a little more from us as hosts. In this episode, we keep it pretty broad but the hope is to do a deep dive into more specific cultural issues every few months with Mike based on the feedback you all provide. Please let us know if this is something you would enjoy listening to!

Ep. 11 - Rev. Hendrik Versteeg & Rev. Bruce Parnell - Mission & Psalm Singing

This episode is a special one, featuring interviews with two different pastors who've worked in vastly different contexts. Rev Hendrik Versteeg served as missionary in Indonesia and Papua New Guinea for many years. Rev. Bruce Parnell has served as a pastor in a mission plant church in Stillwater, Oklahoma for many years as well. We talked with them about their different mission experiences in the jungles of PNG and the Bible Belt of America and in particular asked them about their music traditions in their respective congregations. We hope this episode is informative for all who listen and can further aide our discussions around Psalms, Hymns, and music within our churches.

Ep. 08 - Kids & Tech, Church Culture, & Social Justice Feedback Episode

Reflecting our interview with Tim Challies, we discuss our episode highlights, review audience feedback, and address questions and comments on Psalm singing, porn culture, church culture, Social Justice, and how to train kids to use social media and the internet responsibly.

If you're looking for a Christian resource to learn more about Social Justice and Critical Theory, we recommend checking out Relatable with Allie Beth Stuckey. She has many episodes with a number of different, well informed guests who discuss this matter in great detail from a Reformed, Biblical perspective.
